Bio

Meg Schebler was promoted to the Commissioner of the Continental Athletic Conference for the 2023-24 athletic season after serving as the conference's assistant commissioner since January 2017.

She brings a wealth of experience to the CAC after being a school administrator in the conference and member of several NAIA committees.

Schebler was employed at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, for 18 years, serving the institution in a variety of ways, including 16 years as the Director of Athletics. In addition to her position as the Assistant Commissioner, Schebler has also joined Sports Association Management, Inc. (SAMI), a Kansas City, Mo., based athletic consulting business.

As a longtime member of the NAIA and recent member of the A.I.I., the athletics department at Ashford grew tremendously and improved dramatically under Schebler’s leadership. The Saints appeared in more NAIA national championships than ever before, highlighted by men's soccer team’s appearance in the NAIA National semifinals in 2013. Joining the success of the men’s soccer program were most of the other Ashford programs, including National Championship appearances by volleyball, women's soccer, men's basketball, women’s basketball, women's golf, women’s tennis, softball, and members of the men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams. The Saints’ teams were recognized for their academic success as well, highlighted by the men’s golf team being recognized as the NAIA Scholar Team of the Year in 2012. Schebler was twice chosen as the MCC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year (1999, 2002), and was also selected as the 2007 MCC Conference Athletic Director of the Year as well as the 2007 NAIA Region VII Athletic Director of the Year.  She was recognized as the NACWAA Administrator of the Year (NAIA/JUCO) in 2012 and was honored as a recipient of the 2012-13 NACDA Under Armour AD of the Year Award. In 2014, Schebler was selected as an honoree for the Athena Award in the Quad Cities Region.

Schebler has been active at the NAIA conference, regional, and national levels throughout her career. She has served as an at-large member of the NAIA National Administrative Council, the NAIA Gender Equity Committee, Hall of Fame and Honors Committee, and the Champions of Character Advisory Committee, as well as leadership positions within the Midwest Collegiate Conference and Association of Independent Institutions. She has been a past officer of the NAIA Athletic Directors’ Association, serving as President in 2006-07 and served for many years as the Chair of the NAIA DII Women's Basketball Tournament Committee. Schebler has been a guest lecturer and adjunct instructor in Sports Management courses, as well as a regular presenter at the NAIA and NACWAA National Conventions.

A native of Davenport, Iowa, Schebler graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in history, secondary education. She taught high school social studies in Ft. Madison, Iowa, where she coached basketball, softball, and volleyball.  She then pursued and received her master's degree while serving as a graduate assistant in the athletics and recreation department at Drake University.

Schebler has been involved in her local communities, currently serving on the Quad Cities Sports Commission and as a past member of the Board of Directors for the YWCA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Clinton.
